"Campaign 1776" was John Tiller's first pre-twentieth century era wargame under HPS Simulations. It released to nice reviews, and is to this day one of the few unique wargames focusing on the conflict that was the American War of Independence. The game had a solid engine, good depth and interesting gameplay. After leaving HPS, John Tiller continued updating it under the JTS banner along with his other titles until his passing. The game was then taken further by current developer WDS Games who modernized many aspects and supported it until it was most recently pulled from the shelves to make room for an upcoming new treatment on that historical era. One which I am very much looking forward to!

While Campaign 1776 had fun gameplay and decent looks (especially after the 4.00 upgrade from WDS and many mods) I always felt the graphical unit icons were left in a rather uninspiring state. Over the last years I have dabbled with replacing them, but not until now did I find the right inspiration to do so. Much of this happened after I discovered some incredibly nice mods by the users on the WDS forums, who have updated the terrain graphics and other symbol sets. So, as a thank you to them, I have created a complete graphical unit icon set for all to enjoy. Too bad it is finished just after the game was pulled. But for those of you who (like me) still enjoy "Campaign 1776" a lot, it is my hope that this mod will add a lot of immersion and playability to this otherwise fine old wargame!

Other great mods:

M&P Counter MiniMod for 1776 by Llaird
1776 - Small 3D Icons by Gerbil Lord

I should add that I built my icon set upon the great "Musket & Pike Counter Mini-Mod for 1776" symbol set by WDS forum user "Llaird", as it has very nice formation symbols. All credit to him for the work on implementing those. Do check out the other mods I have linked to as well, as those add a lot to the game's enjoyment!
