"Task Force 1942" is for me one of those special old simulations that looks great, has a lot of promise, concerns a historical period which I am interested in, and that I really want to play. It is also in the group of games that has *that one thing* which makes it hard to love and play. And for me that was the horrible screen fade delay you have to endure when switching between command/action stations in-game. It ALWAYS bugged me, to such a degree I more or less lost patience each time I tried to dive into it. Some time ago I got so fed up, that I just wanted to invest some effort to fix it once and for all.

And to my relief, with some debugging and hex-spell casting, I was actually able to find the problem area quite fast. So it was absolutely possible to change the long fade to a more instant though still pleasant looking screen change! The fix was made for the 41101.1 version as that is what I had at the time. While the same byte change works on 41101.2 as well, the offsets are not the same and it appears a little rough in-game. I suspect it has to do with some other bytes around the area that are a little different from v1. So that might be a later project.

As of now I welcome you to download and try this fix, and I hope it will bring new enjoyment to this old gem of a game! Don't you just love that box art? I do.
